Vanity Fair: The F1 Edit

An Editorial Redesign Concept Featuring the Aston Martin Formula 1 Team

Role: Concept • Art Direction • Visual Design

Independently conceived and executed.

F1’s New BOSS is a magazine spread concept for Vanity Fair. This editorial design project reimagines a five-page Vanity Fair feature that brings together celebrity, fashion, luxury, and Formula 1. Zendaya was selected for the cover because her presence reflects the magazine’s focus on contemporary culture, fashion, and influential public figures. The supporting cover lines establish the issue as a broader celebration of ambition, style, sport, and entertainment.

The interior feature focuses on the Aston Martin Formula 1 team and explores the relationship between performance, image, and luxury branding. The visual identity is built around Aston Martin’s deep green and teal colours, with bright neon-green accents inspired by details found in the drivers’ uniforms and racing equipment. These highlights create energy while connecting the typography, photographs, page numbers, and graphic elements across the spreads.

The first spread uses oversized “F1” typography to create a bold, memorable text-focused page. The white “F” and black “1” introduce a strong monochromatic contrast that carries into the facing BOSS advertisement. In particular, the black “1” visually parallels the driver’s black tie, linking the two pages across the gutter and making the spread feel like one coordinated composition. The full-page advertisement features an Aston Martin driver transitioning between formal tailoring and racing apparel. Because BOSS is one of Aston Martin’s major sponsors, it felt fitting to include a BOSS advertisement within the spread. This choice reinforces the connection between motorsport, luxury, and high fashion.

The second spread combines a large action photograph, editorial body copy, a pull quote, and several smaller supporting images. Changes in image scale create movement and help balance the intensity of the racing subject with Vanity Fair’s refined editorial style. Overall, the design presents Formula 1 as both a competitive sport and a sophisticated cultural experience.
